Content overview

Google and Facebook are examples of recent start-ups that have had a significant impact on the internet age. In almost no other business sector is it possible to start a company with a relatively small investment of capital. In Germany, too, a lively start-up scene has developed in recent years, which has already produced some internationally successful start-ups. In this context, start-ups from universities play a special role because the knowledge previously imparted provides a solid basis for founding a company. Since the theoretical education at German universities is not sufficient on its own for a start-up, the lecture is very practical in accompanying projects. The students deal with the problem of working out a business idea in such a way that in the end a viable company can be founded. The basic internet techniques (HTML, PHP, SQL) as well as knowledge for the creation of a business plan are acquired by the students in self-study.The students work together in groups to formulate and implement their business idea. In this respect, the course takes into account the increasing desire for interdisciplinarity.

Learning objectives

The students acquire the necessary media competence to be able to examine companies on the Internet for their weak points, to work out improvements and to become independent with their own ideas.
